Cornwall Council elections normally take place every four years, with those registered to vote going along to their local polling station to cast a vote. These are twofold – firstly, of electing a
local Cornwall Councillor representative; and secondly, an individual or team of Parish Councillor(s) to serve your local community.
For the Parish elections, Treverbyn Parish Council comprises of two Wards – ‘Bugle’ with 4 councillor seats to fill; and a larger ‘Penwithick’ Ward area with 11 seats covering the community areas of Penwithick, Stenalees, Trethurgy, Carclaze, Carluddon, Carthew, Roscorla, Ruddlemoor, Scredda and Trethowel as well as parts of Boscoppa. The ‘Bugle’ Ward serves Bugle, Rosevear, Bowling Green, and other small residential areas within its designated boundary - see map below.
No formal qualification is required to stand as a Councillor, although one does need to meet age, citizenship and a few other specified requirements. If the number of candidates standing falls short of the seats to be filled, those validly nominated persons shall be duly elected without a poll taking place. The ‘Returning Officer’ announces this as a ‘Notice of Uncontested Election’.
